The Met Office operates a full range of IT capabilities to support delivery of services to our customers. These include the management of the core underpinning infrastructure services, operation of the largest UK government website and development of new products and services to meet demanding customer requirements.
The Graduate Apprenticeship scheme will offer the opportunity to experience work across a range of different technology fields, building a broad level of capability before specialising in a particular area for the final two years of the scheme. This approach provides not only a breadth of technology experience, but also supports the development of a wider network of colleagues that can prove beneficial for future career development.
Individuals will be expected to build their technical knowledge in each discipline, supported by local mentors and a defined work plan. As skills develop, individuals will contribute to the wider objectives of their team through participation in office wide projects or service delivery activities.Requirements and prospects Desired skills
Knowledge of at least one programming language.
A genuine enthusiasm for working in Technology with an understanding of current and future IT trends.

Candidates will be expected to satisfy the entry requirements for this degree apprenticeship set by the University of Exeter. The typical offer is AAB at A-Level, or equivalent. Where candidates are awaiting exam results, any offer made will be conditional on meeting the entry requirements.Future prospects Many Trainee's and apprentices in IT at the Met Office have successfully progressed into valued senior members of teams. With approximately 400 IT staff on site in Exeter, we offer a very real opportunity for progression in a multitude of areas in technology.
