All Faiths and Rochester Grammar School are the founding partners of the Thinking Schools Academy Trust. We work closely together on many aspects of education but particularly the teaching and learning of “thinking skills” to enable all our pupils to think deeply and be adaptable to our rapidly changing world. All Faiths was re-accredited as a Thinking School by Exeter University in June 2018.

Description of Vacancy 
To assist in supporting and promoting the care and learning of all children, including, but not exclusively, those with Special Educational Needs, including lunchtime play and behaviour support (where appropriate).

This role is based in either the Nursery (which caters for children aged 2 – 4 years old) or in Reception (4 – 5 years old). You will be supporting children during carpet sessions with the teacher leading these, small group work, playing alongside children and completing observations to support teachers’ assessments. You will be expected to follow teachers’ planning and to attend relevant in-school training to support you in your role. If you are based in Reception, you will also be supporting children out on the playground during lunchtime alongside Teaching Assistants.

Key Tasks

To support the class teacher’s planning by preparing and participating in a range of activities in line with the EYFS curriculum that promote each child’s physical, intellectual and emotional needs to enable each child to reach their full potential.
To implement activities which encourage linguistic and social interaction between the children and their carers.
Under the direction of the class teacher, to be a key worker for a group of children by observing, monitoring and recording each individual’s development and where appropriate, modify or adapt the activities as agreed with the teacher to achieve the intended learning outcomes.
To promote acceptance and inclusion of all children, encouraging children to interact with others in an appropriate and acceptable manner, including lunchtimes for Reception
To support playground break time/lunchtime supervision where appropriate
To provide regular feedback about children’s development to the class teacher, Early Years Leader and SENCO
To liaise with the class teacher and SENCO about SEND plans for individual children
To provide additional nurture to individuals when requested by the class teacher or SENCO
To attend parents evenings/open days as required.
To communicate with parents/carers about the day to day needs of the children by fostering parental involvement and encouraging positive parenting skills.
To promote the philosophy of ‘learning through play’.
To support the use of ICT in learning activities, where appropriate
To help children acquire self-help skills including dressing, feeding, toilet training and an awareness of personal hygiene.
To accompany class teacher and children on educational visits, where appropriate
To attend staff and team meetings as appropriate.
To keep up to date with developments in childcare and parent education through regular training as appropriate.
To maintain records and documentation that comply with statutory requirements
To know and apply school policies on Child Protection, Health and Safety, Behaviour, Teaching and Learning, Early Years Foundation Stage and Equal Opportunities
To carry out the above duties in accordance with the Education


Wage
£130 per week (based on 32.5 hours per week)

Hours
We will be looking for someone who can work Monday to Friday. Term time only.

Qualifications Required
GCSE English and Maths A – C

Training Provided
On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Framework – consisting of the Intermediate NVQ Level, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills if appropriate.

Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards

Additional Details
As of 1st April 2018, the NMW for Apprentices is £3.70 per hour. This applies to 16 - 18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.

The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training.
