The Alexander Centre (CIC) was set up in 2010 to take over the management of the Alexander Centre – an impressive Victorian building right in the heart of Faversham – from Swale Council.

We are renovating the beautiful period features and upgrading the facilities, so that the Alexander Centre can take its place at the heart of the community. It is a place for local business and leisure activities, weddings and training courses, classes, fairs and support groups.

Vacancy Description
The Alexander Centre CIC oversees the management of its namesake, which is one of Faversham’s most loved buildings, and a constant hive of community activity.

They are now looking for their next apprentice to join them as an Operations & Events assistant, and play a key role in their continued success. You will help to ensure that the Centre is able to service the requirements of its users, hirers, community groups and attendees of events; by providing a safe, clean and well-maintained environment.

Your tasks will include – but are not limited to – the following and may develop in line with your experience:

– Receptionist duties including taking bookings and selling tickets, both over the phone, in person and via e-mail

– Processing bookings and carrying out all relevant administrative procedures.

– Setting up and preparing rooms in preparation for bookings.

– Preparing and providing refreshments to visitors when required.

– To work as a member of bar/tea-room staff as required on events

– Maintaining a high standard of courteous and efficient customer care and liaising with all user groups to promote maximum enjoyment and value for money through their use of the facility

– Carrying out cleaning and minor maintenance tasks as required

– To work with other members of the team to assist with the planning, organisation and implementation of any event, project or programme within the venue, as and when required.

Wage
£135 per week

Hours
This is a shift-based role made up of 30 working hours per week spread across 5 days.

The successful candidate should be prepared for their shifts to include some evenings and weekends.

Skills Required
The successful candidate should have good computer skills and an excellent telephone manner.

Personal Qualities
We are looking for somebody who is able to think on their feet, be proactive, and be comfortable speaking with customers.

Due to some of the requirements of the role we can only accept applications from those aged 18 and above.

Qualifications Required
Minimum grade D/3 in GCSE English & Maths or equivalent.

Training Provided
On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Standard – consisting of the Intermediate NVQ Level, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills if appropriate.

Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.

Additional Detail 

As of 1st April 2019, the NMW for Apprentices is £3.90 per hour. This applies to 16 - 18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.

The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training.
