The post holder will work closely with the Mechanical and Electrical Services Technician and the rest of the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering team. Daily duties will include:

  • Preparing technical information
  • Collecting and reading technical data
  • Undertaking site surveys
  • Assist in preparing drawings using computer aided design software for the following systems:
  • Incoming utility services site plans/general arrangements: mains cold water, gas and electricity supplies
  • Heating, ventilation and air conditioning
  • Hot and cold water services and above ground drainage
  • General power and fire alarms
  • Lighting and emergency lighting
  • Fire suppression systems
  • TV, phone and data, Door Access Systems & CCTV
  • Drawing details/sections where required
  • Drawing management and document control of mechanical and electrical designs
  • Preparing applications for approval by regulatory bodies
  • Communicating with contractors, local authorities, structural engineers and other specialists
  • Developing specifications for building work
  • Assisting with site visit / monitoring
  • General administration work


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Interest in mechanical and electrical building services and the construction industry
  • AutoCAD experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages

  • Demonstrate an enthusiasm for the subject
  • Have a willingness to learn coupled with a great work ethic
  • Possess excellent timekeeping skills
  • Be able to work well both individually and as part of a team
  • Be focused with a high level of attention to detail
  • Be able to work using their own initiative in accordance with pre-determined guidelines


Desired qualifications

  • Achievedat least five GCSE's at grades (A* to C) or equivalent, including English and maths

Things to consider

If your application is successful you will be expected to attend a 1 to 1 appointment with Salford City College Apprentice Team in Media City or another centre in the Salford area. This is a pre-screen session and you will be asked to provide copies of your GCSE / Functional Skills certificates, if you do not have these then you may be asked to complete an assessment in these subjects.
