An opportunity is available to work as an apprentice within the Development Team in Exeter, Devon. The team provides services to private and public sector landowners and developers throughout Devon, Cornwall and Somerset in the following areas:
  • Strategic advice and development consultancy
  • Sale and acquisition of residential and mixed use development land
  • Negotiation of agreements in respect of strategic land
  • Valuation of development sites and a range of property types

The appointed apprentice will be involved with assisting the team in all of these areas. Day to day work will include researching market data to support the preparation of reports and valuations, undertaking Land Registry legal title searches, producing Ordnance Survey site plans using ProMap, drafting sections of valuation reports for clients and assisting on agency pitches and preparing marketing material for land disposals.

The long term potential is to become a Chartered Surveyor who will be capable of carrying out their own valuations, consultancy and land agency instructions, as well as identifying new development opportunities and contributing to the wider team instructions. They would be expected to develop an in depth understanding of the local and regional market and build relationships with the key development clients.

Desired qualifications

For standard entry applicants, must have obtained 96 UCAS tariff points (2017 Tariff) or 230 UCAS tariff points (2016 Tariff) or have an equivalent level of attainment through recognised qualifications not included in the UCAS Tariff


Have completed an Advanced Apprenticeship in Surveying or an Advanced Apprenticeship in Construction Technical through which a Construction and Built Environment Diploma with a minimum DD profile was obtained or through which a Construction and Built Environment Extended Diploma with a minimum MMM profile was obtained, or an equivalent qualification


Have a current RICS Associate qualification (AssocRICS)


Have GCSE Grade C or above in English and Mathematics (Grade 4 for applicants holding newly reformed GCSEs in England) or an equivalent Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics as defined by the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) in England.

*Recognised qualifications having an equivalent level of attainment as those recognised by UCAS include: Higher National Certificate (HNC), Higher National Diploma (HND), professional qualifications from recognised institutions, certain armed forces qualifications and partially completed degrees.
