Due to ongoing growth of GBE's portfolio of products, there is an exciting opportunity to join our in-house product design team. The multi-disciplinary design team are the core of GBE's design-to-production business model; and the increase in demand of IoT enabled firmware products has enabled GBE to work in partnership with the University of Chichester to offer this innovative Electronics Design Engineer apprenticeship role.
The successful applicant will be expected to be able to work across several product areas, with an opportunity to have an almost immediate input into product design functions and features. The multi-disciplinary team includes mechanical, electronic, firmware, software, production and compliance engineering skills; so, there is plenty of opportunity to expand practical knowledge. This means good communication - both internally across GBE's design and production teams, plus external client-facing, is essential.
The role will be mentored by two of GBE's experienced engineers - electronics and firmware; and reporting directly to the technical director. This will enable the candidate to maximise their learning potential whilst working on current design projects. GBE operates a 'flat' management structure and teams are aligned with product specific projects. This gives everyone the opportunity to make key contributions on all the projects they are involved with. As more experience is gained there is plenty of opportunity to become product manager for key clients throughout the company.
The candidate must demonstrate good electronics and firmware design potential; along with an enthusiasm for technology and design trends. Being able to identify and deliver design requirements, to budget and schedule, is essential.
The role will be primarily based at GBE's Goring office, along with some time working at their manufacturing facility in Littlehampton. There will be some opportunity to work at home, plus opportunities to visit customers, suppliers and trade shows (initially in the UK, then overseas as the projects dictates).
GBE offers flexible working hours, to suit a good home-work life balance. There is also a yearly discretionary bonus.
