Working as an Apprentice Technician you'll work alongsideleading internationally recognised engineering consultants who havea track record of delivering sustainable building designs on a range of prestigious projects. As an Apprentice Technicianyou will be tasked with assisting the production of sustainable low carbon design solutions on some of London's most iconic landmark buildings.

Joining theteam in Maidenhead you'll work with colleagues who specialise in building services design providing heating, cooling, ventilation, power and lighting design solutions to large scale commercial, residential, educational and mixed-use buildings and developments.

  • Charterhouse School Science and Mathematics Centre

The job is extremely diverse and will includeinvolvement in the following:
  • Attendance of design coordination meetings with external project teams including industry leading architects, structural engineers and our prestigious clients
  • Production of coordinated 3D and 2D mechanical and electrical design drawings using software tools including Revit and AutoCAD
  • Basic building calculations including air distribution, heat gain, heat loss and cooling as well as power distribution and lighting calculations
  • Production of 3D computational thermal models to simulate heating loads, cooling loads, and provide overheating analysis
  • Contribution to research and reporting of building servicing options and strategies
  • Production of technical reports for internal and external project teams
  • Meeting with manufactures to discuss and understand various advancing and emerging building technologies

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Active interest in the construction industry and sustainable design development
  • Confident using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Any experience with CAD software is advantageous but not mandatory
  • Able to demonstrate good verbal and written communication
  • Enjoy workingin or as part of a team
  • Time management and prioritisation of work load coupled with good punctuality
  • Willingness to study and complete University assignments in your own time
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated to pursue personal and professional development working towards incorporated engineer accreditation (IEng).

Personal qualities

  • Able to work collaboratively with others to form strong positive working relationships with colleagues, clients and contractors

Desired qualifications

  • Apprenticeship candidates will typically have at least three A levels at Grades A*-C including mathematics and Physical Science (either Physics or Chemistry) or will have completed a level 3 Apprenticeship BTEC National Diploma in a relevant field
  • Candidates are also required to start the programme holding a L2 maths and English qualification (GSCE grade A*- C / new tariff grade 4 or above)
