Duties to include:
  • Support the senior management team and team of staff in providing a high-quality childcare provision
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team within Butterflies Childcare Ltd.
  • Lead, supervise and manage a team and specific areas or activities and follow planning as required
  • Carry out peer observations and support the development of your team
  • Ensure that the balance between tasks and care for children is maintained
  • Act as a mentor to students on placement in the nursery offering appropriate support as required
  • Take the lead on specific areas of responsibility and/or projects that support the development of the nursery (e.g. overseeing management ofIT, lead role in parent/staff liaison, development of outside play area.)
  • Initiate, implement, set targets and review Individual Education and Learning Plans through regular liaison with the Management and other practitioners(For SEN children this will be in collaboration with SENCO and parent).
  • Take responsibility for observing, planning, tracking and evaluating the learning and development of key children and setting individual targets
  • Ensure that your team are also taking their responsibility for observing, planning, tracking and evaluating the learning and development of key children and setting individual targets


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • At least two years' experience (post training) of working with children and delivering high quality childcare including a range of activities both in an individual and group setting
  • Knowledge and experience of implementing an Early Years curriculum for children under five years and an understanding of how they relate to the learning and development of young children
  • Knowledge and understanding of the learning and developmental needs of children and the ability to plan and deliver services appropriate to their needs and interests
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, respect and kindness towards children ensuring all their needs are met
  • Ability to relate to and work with children and others as individuals and in groups
  • Ability to set clear goals and targets, to prioritise effectively, and to complete tasks on time
  • Excellent written, verbal,and communication skills
  • Ability to make effective decisions based upon an analysis of all pertinent information
  • Knowledge and ability to plan and deliver services taking into consideration special needs, gender, and families' ethnic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds
  • Skills to manage children's behaviour effectively, without resorting to physical punishment


Personal qualities

  • Satisfactory Enhanced DBS disclosure
  • Experience as a room leader (desirable)


Desired qualifications

A recognised qualification in childcare (equivalent to level 3 or above).
