Purpose of this role:

This apprenticeship programme provides on the job training and a highly competitive study support package at the end of which the successful employee will achieve a level 4apprenticeship as appropriate to role. This level is nationally recognised to be approximately equivalent to an HNC (level 4).

The Trading Standards Apprentice will undertake the Regulatory Compliance Officer Apprenticeship (level 4).

The apprenticeship is fully supported by Derbyshire County Council and an official government approved training provider throughout the duration of the programme.

Apprentices will work with a variety of teams, and can expect to be involved in a variety of projects to:
  • Understand how to implement organisation strategy and plans
  • Understand how a project moves through planning, design, development, deployment and evaluation
  • Develop an awareness of business, client and end user needs throughout the project or programme
  • Build an awareness of interpersonal and communication skills

Key development areas include:
  • pplication of safe systems of work including taking responsibility for accessing and controlling risk, working within legislation, procedures and best practice
  • Awareness of the key principles, methods and processes that underpin the service area
  • Gain an awareness of the related codes of practice, legal and regulatory frameworks, that govern the related functions associated with the service
  • Develop a range of research techniques used to develop innovative solutions to problems making recommendations as and when required
  • Communicate effectively through the production of reports, presentations, specifications, drawings, digital media and discussions with those both inside and outside of the authority
  • Ability to use a range of performance monitoring, management and reporting techniques to ensure costs, service, quality and objectives are being achieved

General Responsibilities:
  • To commit to undertake, and successfully complete, the required work as defined within the relevant apprenticeship framework or standard
  • Work across a range of projects, providing advice and technical solutions where applicable to a range of stakeholders and customers
  • Carry out and record the continuing professional development necessary to maintain and enhance knowledge and competence
  • Take responsibility for personal development, demonstrating commitment to learning and self-improvement and be open to feedback
  • Be confident and flexible in dealing with new and changing interpersonal situations, creating and maintaining productive working relationships

Desired qualifications

Essential qualifications: English and mathematics GCSE grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) or equivalent.

We offer an excellent work based training programme and you will be given lots of support to help you complete your apprenticeship qualification, whilst gaining experience working for the Council.
