Vacancy Description

You will gain transferable skills and experience working in a busy, efficient and committed IT team. You will be responsible for day-to-day maintenance of the School's computers, printers and classroom AV equipment. This is a first-line support role: you will operate the servicedesk, respond to support calls, diagnose and fix problems, and escalate more serious issues.

For the duration of the four year apprenticeship programme you will be on a fixed term contract. On completion of the Apprenticeship, a permanent position may be offered.

Working in this role, you will be expected to;
  • Provide first and second line support for IT and audio-visual technologies to The Leys community
  • Assist IT staff in the deployment and maintenance of equipment and services
  • Perform technical research to help diagnose and solve problems
  • Help staff and pupils to attach personal devices to the School's data network
  • Assist IT staff in troubleshooting server and network functionality and performance issues

You will need to have a proven interest in Computing and Information Technology. We also need you to be:
  • An excellent communicator and organiser; willing to learn and good at explaining technical issues to non-technical users
  • Able to learn on the job to gain new skills and knowledge

Proactive in your approach to problem solving, able to identify IT problems and understand what level of support is needed.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

Essential
  • Good knowledge of PC and laptop hardware and Windows productivity apps
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows 10 and Apple iOS

Desirable
  • Familiarity with MacOS X and Android
  • Basic programming and scripting
  • Some knowledge of ethernet and wireless networking

Desired qualifications

You should have (or be predicted to achieve) at least:
  • A minimum of 112 UCAS points, (A level grades BBC or a vocational course equivalent, e.g. BTEC DMM) including at least 1 STEM subject (ideally Computing)
  • If English is not your first language, you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.5 or equivalent
  • 5 GCSEs at C/4 or above to include English and maths (or equivalent)


Future prospects

  • There is potential to develop and acquire additional responsibilities in the course of this apprenticeship, depending on performance
  • On successful completion, you may be offered a permanent position
