The University Information Services provides central Information Technology services for both the academic and administrative activities of the University of Cambridge.

We are looking for an apprentice to join our Software Testing division who provide an objective, independent view of the software to allow the organisation to appreciate and understand the risks of software implementation.

Test techniques include the process of executing a program or application with the intent of finding software bugs (errors or other defects), and verifying that the software product is fit for use.

This role is perfect for those who are early into their career and have a passion and genuine enthusiasm for starting a career in IT with a focus in networking.

Throughout the apprenticeship you will be trained to work and learn:
  • Software testing and development principles and techniques
  • Using and configuring software testing tools and packages
  • Preparing and carrying out tests
  • Including designing test strategies, plans, procedures and scripts, recording and reporting test results
  • Including identifying, prioritising and correcting issues
  • Testing a range of software applications using different types of testing
  • Softwaretesting and security practices
  • Standards and legislation
  • Logical and creative thinking and analytical and problem solving skills

Desired qualifications

The role requires an A-Level/NVQ Level 3 vocational qualification, or equivalent, and at least five GCSEs (or equivalent) of grades A*-C (or new grading of 9-4) including English, maths, and either science or IT.

By working hard and demonstrating your ability, drive and commitment throughout your apprenticeship scheme, upon completion you may be offered a permanent contract dependant on the needs of the business ensuring you have further opportunities to continue growing within this exciting organisation.
