Apprenticeships are a paid job opportunity with a learning element which guides someone towards achieving occupational competence. Working in a supported learning environment, you will undertake tasks in your department relating to your apprenticeship. In addition to the training and support you receive from the Trust, you will work towards achieving certification of occupational competence - thiswill also include achieving a qualification relevant to the occupation you are training for.
It's about learning new skills:
In order to successfully complete your apprenticeship, you will undertake a range of duties related to your job as well as undertaking off the job learning with a dedicated Training Provider.

You will work with your line manager and the training provider to put in place an individual development plan that will help set the course of your apprenticeship, working to an agreed apprenticeship standard or framework. You will undertake training and constructively take part in meetings, supervision, seminars and other events designed to improve communication.

It's about good teamwork:

You will be an excellent team player helping to create a great place for your colleagues (staff and volunteers) to work in.

It's about understanding the work of the Trust:

As part of your role, you will learn about wider work of the Trust, its history and conservation values and how this works in practice at your location.

It's about working safely:

You will comply with procedures to manage risk to yourself, your team, volunteers, visitors and contractors.

Reports to: Assigned manager within the team.

Operating budget: May have some budgetary responsibility

Line management: Supervisory/Line manager duties may be required as specified in the chosen apprenticeship. May work alongside or lead volunteers.

Technical Knowledge: Greater technical and/or theoretical knowledge about the chosen specialism will be expected and then built upon as part of the apprenticeship.

Area and nature of impact:
  • This is a development and learning role
  • You will undertake a range of duties that will help you to learn to operate in this role in line with agreed processes and procedures
  • Undertakes training to a set programme
  • Works under supervision to agreed work programmes 

  • Works as part of a team.

  • Maintains good relations with other departments
  • If based at a property and may assist in the delivery of events and other engagement activities

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

Knowledge, skills & experience needed:

Must be able to meet the specific entry requirements of the apprenticeship and undertake the studying and coursework required to complete the course and end point assessment.

Previous related technical knowledge, experience or understanding may be required.

Commitment to completing the apprenticeship and incorporated qualifications.

Personal qualities

Enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Good people skills enabling strong relationships externally and internally, to be built and maintained.

Able to work flexibly as part of a team.

Commitment to customer service standards.

Able to follow clear instructions given.

May have some knowledge of relevant Health and Safety procedures.

Desired qualifications

Must have 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at grage 9 - 4 (A* - C) or be willing to undertake Functional Skills Level 2; A Levels; a Level 3 Apprenticeship; other relevant qualifications and experience; or an aptitude test, with a focus on functional maths.

Future prospects

Following the successful completion of the apprenticeship there will be the opportunity to continue development via the Trust's developing IT Academy and on into any relevant vacancies that are available at the time.

Things to consider

The site is on the outskirts of the Swindon Designer Outlet, there is a subsidised staff restaurant.

Car parking is available at the outlet carpark at a discounted rate of £1 per day.

Buses from all surrounding areas stop at the Outlet making public transport an easy option.

Successful candidates will have access to the National Trust properties and associated staff discount in the shops.

PLEASE NOTE: This role will be at split sites, the main site at Heelis, Kemble Drive & the Nexus site, SN2 2PN
