As a IT Apprentice your job includes:
  • Safety Commitment - Ensuring the Safety of Self and Others
  • Support - Supply first to last line support to all company personnel with relation to Hardware, Software or Network
  • Network - Maintain all aspects of the companies LAN and WAN working with external agencies where support exists
  • Licensing - Maintain all documentation pertinent to software and hardware licensing

Additional duties will include:
  • Work closely with business in the implementation and decision making over new equipment and software development
  • Install new/rebuild existing server/workstations and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
  • Perform daily system and monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures, in coordinate and communication with impacted areas of the business
  • Systems and Process Review
  • Review and improve existing systems and processes in order to improve effectiveness
  • Identify and introduce new systems and processes that improve the area or business as appropriate
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks
  • Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale
  • Perform periodic performance tuning and reporting to support capacity planning
  • The provision of detailed professional / expert / technical advice to others in order to resolve issues, influence decisions, make aware of risk or to guide them in their tasks
  • Ensure that any new systems and working practices are presented to the relevant groups and sufficient training is supplied to maintain that such systems and working practices are properly adopted
  • Follow Procedures
  • Follow all appropriate procedures effectively and perform all appropriate tasks within set time scales and to set standards
  • Maintain and develop all documentation (like installation and configuration) pertinent to any new systems or working practices, ensuring that any new users or further members of the IT department can fully understand and utilize functionality
  • Manage and assist in desks and equipment moves(This may include heavy lifting)
  • Ensure that the business is suitably protected against both external and internal attack, whether this be Virus or malicious intent
  • Firewall maintenance across all sites and installations
  • Virus prevention, detection and removal. User password policy and adherence
  • Perform daily backup operations (including archiving), ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary
  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures like BCP, ISMS, ISO 9001/27001

Desired qualifications

  • Five GCSEs (or equivalent) of grades A*-Cincluding maths, English and IT/Science
  • Ideally, although not essential, you will also possess an A-level (or equivalent) in ICT
