Job Purpose Working with an existing project manager who is approaching retirement age in the next few years and other existing project managers. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a friendly, family run engineering business in Market Harborough. The successful candidate should ideally have a good 'feel' for engineering and shall learn the business of industrial air filtration. It is a multidisciplinary role which encapsulates office work, site visits in the UK and abroad, CAD design, proposal writing, estimating, site measuring, commissioning and overall project management.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Team Work
  • Coordinate with other project engineers and managers within the company to assist in achieving the successful completion of all projects
  • Liaise within and outside (customers and suppliers) the company to help in achieving the companies' objectives
  • Operate in a professional manner at all times

Project Management
  • Communicate with clients as required to respond to their queries and execute the project aiming to leave client satisfied and willing to recommend FDL
  • Manage the project using Gantt charts, WIP/cost monitor sheets, drawings and other tools as the project requires
  • Engage with the on-site erection of the project to manage issues arising and remedy as required
  • Travel to various client sites to facilitate all aspects of the projects requirements (proposal creation, measuring up, site management, erection, commissioning)
  • Work on specific projects in detail covering all aspects of their successful completion
  • Ensure as possible that project costings are under budget and keep the cost monitor current at all times

  • Manage other employed and sub-contracted design engineers to make efficient use of their time towards completion of the required works

Office Systems
  • Update the required documents to satisfy the QA system (e.g. drawings lists, drawing issue numbers, problems and improvements list, quotes and estimates list, etc.)
  • Use the proposal creation templates in word and excel as directed to estimate and provide proposals to client


This role is a varied and challenging one and the specific nature of the role and time spent on aspects of it may depend on a number of factors, from the current needs of the business through to your individual skills/areas you enjoy, the role could be fairly flexible. You will be expected to take a proactive role and contribute positively to the development of the business. Specific training in areas needed will be provided.

Things to consider

Due to the nature of the role, a Driving license would be ideal.

No two days are the same.You could be in a suit helping to present a proposal to a board of directors and then on site solving an issue in the afternoon.Involves travelling at times and some overnight stays likely.International travel not foreseen presently.
