Working under the guidance of Senior Building Surveyors, the role focuses on the delivery of building refurbishment and maintenance projects throughout Derbyshire.

Derbyshire County Council has a large property portfolio which provides an excellent opportunity to work with buildings across a wide spectrum of age and type, including traditional, system and modular. There will also be opportunities to undertake a variety of other building surveying work, including condition surveys, party wall matters and dilapidations.

Due to this post having administrative privileges within the Council's IT systems, and in order to comply with the Public Services Network requirements, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a Basic criminal record check. Purpose of this role:

This Apprenticeship programme provides on the job training and a highly competitive study support package at the end of which the successful employee will achieve either a level 6 or level 7 apprenticeship as appropriate to role. These levels are nationally recognised to be approximately equivalent to an Hons Degree (level 6) or postgraduate qualification (level 7).

Degree apprentices will work with a variety of teams, and can expect to be involved in a variety of projects to:
  • Recognise the individuals ability to deliver impact, behave ethically and demonstrate a commitment to continual learning and development
  • Understand how to implement organisation strategy and plans at a higher level
  • Develop fully all aspects of management and leadership skills
  • Understand how a project/program moves through planning, design, development, deployment and evaluation
  • Provide professional advice and recommendations
  • Build an awareness of interpersonal and communication skills

Key development areas include:
  • Understanding the management complexity and delivering impact at a strategic and/or operational level
  • Techniques for setting and delivering organisational objectives through a wide range of functions

  • Understanding a range of monitoring, management and reporting techniques to ensure costs, service, quality and objectives are being achieved
  • Understanding different leadership styles, motivating and improving performance and supporting fellow team members by using coaching and mentoring approaches

  • Work across a range of projects, providing advice and technical solutions where applicable to a range of stakeholders and customers

Desired qualifications

A-Levels - BBB, orBTEC Extended Diploma - DDM, or120 UCAS Tariff points from three A-levels or equivalent qualifications, andGCSE - English and maths grade C/4 or equivalent.
