The Manufacturing Engineering apprenticeship scheme in the Technical Services Departmentis an incredible opportunity for the candidate to build knowledge and expertise in the different elements of Manufacturing Engineering, spend time and learn in the other key support departments to the business - New Product Introduction (NPI), Design Engineering, R&D, Product Support, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Robot and Tooling Design, Quality, Business Resources and Operations.

They work closely with all departments to review the trucks design and ensure it can be built in the safest way to the highest quality standards in the right time as efficiently as possible adhering to Industry Standards.

They are responsible for the layout of the factory, introducing the key pieces of equipment to improve the process. Teams of Manufacturing Engineers use virtual simulation tools at their desks and in the state of the art CAVE facility before validating processes physically in the Process Validation Area. All aspects of the process are validated - Safety and Process FMEA, Ergonomics, Design and Purchase of Capital Tooling and Equipment, Bill of Materials, Cycle Time, Capacity Planning, Layout, Standard Work and Packaging Specifications.

This position requires a candidate with a positive attitude towards learning and working safely that can adapt well to change and is always trying to continuously improve skill and knowledge base

Successful candidates will be required to attend a local College.

Desired qualifications

  • 5 GCSE's C/4 or above including maths, English and a Science
  • Level 3 Diploma in Engineering or Extended Diploma

  • 5 GCSE's passes (as above) plus 2 A level's in maths and a Science or Engineering related subject
  • HNC in an Engineering subject or experience working in a manufacturing engineering environment would be desired but is not essential

Future prospects

  • Possibility of permanent employment providing the criteria of the apprenticeship has been met

Things to consider

  • As a part of your apprenticeship you will be required to attend a local College of Further Education or University to complete academic studies- Transport will not be provided and it is the apprentices responsibility to ensure attendance to both the college/university and workplace is possible
  • As a part of the new starter process, all successful applicants may be required to undertake a drug and/or alcohol screen. Where an applicant either refuses to provide a sample or attempts to falsify or tamper with evidence or produces a positive result their offer of employment will be withdrawn
