What you will do in your working day

We are looking to recruit an apprentice Rehabilitation Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be fully funded to study for a BSc in Healthcare Science Practitioner (Clinical Engineering) (Level 6) at The University of the West of England whilst working with the service. The job will primarily be based at Horsham Hospital but will include travel to NHS sites around West Sussex and to see clients in their own homes.We are looking for someone who is hardworking, quick to lean, a problem solver and a good communicator! This is a fantastic opportunity for the right person who will have their university qualification fully funded whilst working and gaining experience in the service.

The training you will be getting

Acquire clinical and technical knowledge in the field of Rehabilitation Engineering, and the specific areas of wheelchair and special seating engineering.

b) Learn to prescribe equipment to wheelchair users (including manual and electrically powered wheelchairs, buggies, seating systems and accessories). This involves working in a technical-clinical capacity and includes client assessment

Be required to meet competency and learning targets each year and complete the degree course over a period of 3 years. Completion of the degree and competency targets will ultimately enable the apprentice to join The Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT) and practice as a Rehabilitation Engineer. Attend the UWE for a number of 5 day block learning over the degree as well as on line learning

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Participate in a structured program of training which will include on the job experience, external training courses and completion of a degree in Healthcare Science, specialising in Clinical Engineering at The University of the West of England (UWE). The degree course fees are fully funded by this post
