This is an exciting opportunity for Laboratory Apprentice to join our dynamic team based in Manchester.

The role will include:
  • Commencing training in practical aspects of one or more techniques, require supervision to generate high quality data
  • Commencing external scientific training (aligned to college/training providers course)
  • Introduction to theoretical basis of the techniques
  • Introduction to some clients' products and processes
  • Problem solving through work based on established methods and well-defined problems
  • All work to be supervised and checked
  • Direct communication with clients will be supported and guided
  • Work priorities determined through Laboratory Manager and Team Leader

Intertek Pharma Services Manchester (IPSM) has an extensive range of analytical instrumentation and provides analytical services to customers in the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, personal care and speciality chemical sectors in a GLP, GCP and GMP regulated laboratory.

The role will provide the opportunity to learn scientific skills within a Laboratory setting. On a daily basis you will be exposed to learning processes such as the preparation and analysis of samples using a variety of analytical techniques. You will have the opportunity to grow your skills within a closely monitored environment which offers a hand's on approach to learning. As a Technician Scientist in Cell & Gene Therapy you will carry out scientific experimentation & laboratory investigations in the testing of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs). You will use specialised technical skills and advanced scientific techniques following procedures associated with their organisations operational plans to deliver as part of a wider professional team.

Desired qualifications

You should possess a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) - grades A - C / 9 - 4 including Science, maths and English

For entry to the Technician Scientist (Level 5) apprenticeship you must have a total of 80 UCAS points including preferably a B in A-Level Biology or equivalent. Alternative experience and qualifications may be considered.

The Manchester site operates on a flexible working basis where core hours are 37.5 hours per week. The role holder must be willing to work to a flexible schedule as the business requires.

We will provide the required training, education and mentoring that will allow you to meet the requirements of the role and develop new skills to progress in your career.

The apprentice must be able to demonstrate the required attitudes, behaviours and interpersonal skills associated with the professional workplace.

The apprentice must be willing to commit an amount of personal time to study.
