We are excited about this opportunity to bring a Degree Apprentice into our organisation to support the exciting work we have ahead.

You will contribute to our vision and strategy through performing project and support roles within a range of high-performing teams at the Samaritans. The rotational placements for our Project Support Apprentice are likely to include roles within our Fundraising, Marketing, Communication, Policy Campaigns and Partnerships, and Finance teams.

You will provide support on work-based projects, co-ordinate administration activities, and will lead on discrete pieces of work. We hope that this experience will develop your understanding and experience of how business processes work in practice, and how these align in our charity to create, facilitate and support social change.

Key responsibilities outlined may include the following tasks:
  • Working on supervised work-based projects within a key business area
  • Supporting teams with general coordination and business process activities
  • Contributing to the development and improvement of our business processes and procedures
  • Supporting learning, evaluation, knowledge management, capacity building initiatives of the organisation
  • Assisting with the preparation of communication materials (internal and external)
  • Supporting with fundraising and marketing projects, events and day to day activities

Key skills and experience required:
  • Though experience of working within the not for profit sector is not required, you should have a keen interest in making a difference and contributing to our vision to reduce suicide.
  • Ability to follow set guidelines and instructions (verbal or written) to deliver results and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to interact and engage comfortably at all levels.
  • A flexible, adaptable and proactive approach
  • Ability to put into practice what has been learnt effectively - we will ensure you have the support to make this happen
  • Sound prioritisation, time and task management skills ensuring accuracy and completeness in line with deadlines and across multiples tasks

Desired qualifications

Generally, we expect our degree apprentices to demonstrate similar academic achievements to full-time BSc students

  • AAA Excludes General Studies Critical thinking

International Baccalaureate (IB):
  • 36 points overall, including 6,6,6 from three Higher Level subjects. This must include a minimum of 4 in Standard Level Mathematics.

  • (RQF) D*DD Full BTEC entry requirements

Access HE:
  • We consider applications from students with the Access to Higher Education Diploma on a case-by-case basis

  • GCSE English and Mathematics at grade C or 4 or above required

Professional Experience:
  • Given the vocational nature of Degree Apprenticeships consideration will be given to reducing the academic entry requirements should applicants have relevant work experience. Queen Mary and the employer will agree to consider such applications on a case by case basis

Things to consider

Our HQ can be reached from the Ewell West Railway Station with trains taking 35 minutes from Waterloo and Wimbledon. We have great connections on local bus routes and a number of limited free parking spaces. As a Degree Apprentice you would be eligible for an Apprentice Oyster Card and you would be expected to meet travel expenses to and from work/University from your salary.
