Apprentice Business Administrator (Housing)
Gravesham Borough Council is responsible for a range of vital services for people and businesses in the borough including housing, planning, environmental health and waste collection.
The successful candidate will be based within the Housing and Regeneration directorate, working in the Housing Needs Team. The team provides a front line service delivering housing advice and assistance under housing law (including the Homeless Reduction Act 2017) to prevent customers from becoming homeless.
Description of Vacancy
An opportunity to work in a pressurised customer focussed service by responding to customers with housing related issues such as the threat of homelessness.
To assist in the administration of applications for housing and the assessment of housing needs for residents with housing difficulties.
To provide support and assistance to departments by engaging with and responding to customer and colleague enquiries. Working as part of a busy team offering administrative support with Corporate Service functions; and providing timely, effective and holistic customer focussed service by dealing with the gathering of confidential information to support housing applications and assess housing needs.
The post holder will learn and gain an academic qualification and will also obtain valuable experience within the housing sector which will give an opportunity to progress in number of housing fields. This post will provide an insight on how the local authorities deliver their statutory functions to members of public when delivering Housing services.
The role requires updating and maintaining computer records, reports and spreadsheets and general admin duties, dealing with enquiries and service requests from customers, team members and other Council departments by telephone, email or letter.
Responsible to the Senior Housing Options Officer, you will support the Housing Options Team, the Housing Allocations team and the Private Sector Housing Team to help to deliver an efficient service to customers.
You will participate in the placement and monitoring of customers in temporary accommodation including the reconciliation of rent accounts and dealing with rent arrears.
You will build on an interest in housing to gain knowledge and expertise in the implementation of legislation, guidance and good practice in relation to homelessness and the social housing sector.
£144.30 per week
37 Hours per week
Business core hours:
9.00 am – 5.00 pm Monday and Friday
9.00 am – 5.15 pm Tuesday to Thursday
With 1 hour lunch break per day
Ability to follow guidelines, policies and procedures.
Working knowledge of a wide range of Microsoft Office packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and charting software.

Minimum achieved GCSE Grade C or equivalent in 5 subjects to include English and Maths.
On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Framework – consisting of the Intermediate NVQ Level, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills if appropriate.
Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.
