Summer Actuarial Internship 2019

Our summer Actuarial Internship is designed to give hands-on experience and exposure to our talented Actuarial team. Throughout your 8-week summer internship you will be working as a valuable member of the team, getting access to the latest tools and techniques, developing your analytical skills and building your actuarial knowledge.

Over the 8 weeks, you will be involved in work that makes a real difference to our business. It could be supporting the team in developing a new method or approach to some of our existing modelling processes, or implementing an existing modelling process into a new modelling system. You could also be exploring the predictiveness of new data sources. Everything you work on will support your learning, providing you insight and experience to what our Actuarial teams do.

We recognise how important internships are and we are committed to giving our interns the support, guidance and knowledge that will support further learning. As this Internship is open to applicants who are in their second or final year of their degree or Masters, there is also the potential to secure a permanent position with us before you finish your internship, to return to work for us when you finish your studies.

Role purpose

This role provides analytical and actuarial pricing support to the head of modelling. Working within a team of 5, you will perform assist in predictive modelling projects, demonstrating a combination of commercial acumen with sound analytical skills to make the most of this internal and external data.


* Prepare data and perform analysis of alternative modelling methods or model structures.

* Investigate predictiveness of new data sources.

* Analysis of internal and external data to make recommendations on new data items or feeds to enrich customer quotes. Compile actuarial based management information as required.

* Complete projects individually and in small teams, for underwriting and claims.

Education and skills required;

* Working towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree which had a strong emphasis on statistic and data analysis such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Sciences etc.

* Strong quantitative and analytical skills.

* A hunger and passion for working with numerical/statistical data.

* An inquisitive nature.

* Must have a basic knowledge in one programming or coding package.

* Ability to contribute to the conversation and comfortable with a variety of stakeholders.

* Drive, enthusiasm, creativity and problem solving skills.
