Reporting to more senior level engineers, you are responsible for contributing to the delivery of projects in your team in accordance with the company's standards and procedures. An understanding of our culture and core values is to be developed along with an awareness of the company business plan and objectives.

The role requires you to be a strong team player, have good communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with all members of the internal design team to assist in the delivery of a project, by contributing to specific areas under the guidance of the senior engineering team.

Your key responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

An understanding and experience in producing basic calculations both manually and computerized using the appropriate technical software applications.

An awareness of British Standards, when to refer to these and where to find them.

An awareness of chapmanbdsp's standards and procedures. Anawareness of Health&SafetyintheconstructionindustryandtheirpurposetogainCSCS Construction Operative skills card to allow site access.

Accompanied site visits as and when appropriate to further understanding of design production.

Maintain a well-documented project, including calculation files and project correspondence.

Ability to understand a project's programme.

An understanding of the reading of drawings.

Using specialist 3D and 2D software and other resources to design the systems required for the project.

Develop general understanding of BREEAM and SKA with specific understanding in relation to your discipline for BREEAM.

Understand and assist with the process of Building Physics calculations including:
  • Dynamic Thermal Simulation
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics
  • Daylight modelling and calculations
  • Develop an understanding of Low and Zero Carbon Technologies and their applicability
  • Ability to understand a project's programme.

Desired qualifications

Have at least three A levels at Grades A*-C including mathematics and Physical Science or their equivalent or will have completed a level 3 Apprenticeship as a Building Services Design Technician
  • A Level BBC or
  • BTEC National Diploma DDM or
  • Access to Engineering qualifications with 15 Distinctions and 30 Merits or
  • Equivalent level 3 qualifications worth 128 UCAS points
  • Level 3 qualifications must include maths and Physics
  • Applicants must hold 5 GCSEs at grades A-C/9-4 (or equivalent) including maths and English


Future prospects

chapmanbdsp have a CIBSE accredited professional development training scheme which leads to Chartership in around four years. Promotion and salary reviews take place twice a year.
