You will follow a training programme as part of our Construction Management RICS-accredited Degree Apprenticeship, geared towards you achieving Chartered status under the Project Management Pathway with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. The Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) process is included in the final assessment process for this Apprenticeship.

As a Apprentice Construction Manager, working in our site locations, you will you will gain valuable experience working as part of our site management team in successfully delivering our projects to ensure that they are meet all the requirements from both the John Sisk & Son and its Clients' requirements.

Responsibilities will include:
  • To plan, monitor, assess resources, direct and act to ensure adherence to the Construction program to complete the project within the contract period
  • Monitor and drive sub-contractors overall performance and progress
  • To determine and monitor work methods and performance of subcontractors and employees to ensure compliance with their obligations and the company's management plan
  • Ensure technology transfer is carried out effectively
  • To advise and provide input into negotiation and selection of subcontractors and suppliers to meet project cost and quality
  • To manage terms and deliverables for both the prime contract and subcontracts to protect the Company's risks and obligations
  • To provide input into cost control in conjunction with the commercial department and Project Director/Manager to manage project cost and risk
  • To regularly review HSE safety at work on site to ensure a safe work environment, in line with the Company's management plans
  • Coordinate design deliverables to issue to Site Subcontractors areas of program
  • Coordinate interfaces between sections and suppliers to ensure project requirements are managed

Typically, as an apprentice you will work 5 days per week with 4 days in the workplace and 1 day allocated to study time.

Desired qualifications

Entry requirements:
  • Predicted or achieved a minimum of 96 UCAS tariff points (2018 Tariff) or 240 UCAS tariff points (2017 Tariff)
  • your A levels (excluding general studies) with at least one A level in Maths or Science
  • your BTEC Extended Diploma (180 Credits) or a BTEC National Diploma (120 Credits) in Science, Construction or Engineering

Or,
  • Have completed an Advanced Apprenticeship in Surveying or an Advanced Apprenticeship in Construction Technical through which a Construction and Built Environment Diploma with a minimum DD profile was obtained or through which a Construction and Built Environment Extended Diploma with a minimum MMM profile was obtained, or an equivalent qualification
  • GCSE Grade C or above in English and mathematics (Grade 4 for applicants holding newly reformed GCSEs in England) or an equivalent Level 2 qualification in English and mathematics as defined by the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) in England

Initial short listing for the role will be conducted by our partners at UCEM.

Future prospects

Gain Chartered Surveyor Status.

Things to consider

Driving licence would be an advantage, but not essential.

Please note that during the selection process apart from the interviews to be arranged in summer 2019, we may ask shortlisted candidates to complete various short online assessments.
  • You will be based on a construction site for most of your work (in all weather)
  • Travel may be required as part of the role, this will depend on the client, project and office location
  • Balancing workload and own study time, having the commitment to both without jeopardising either throughout the course of the programme
