For this programme there are roles available in the Markets Policy team and General Insurance Sector team.

The key responsibilities of the post holder will be:
  • Create and use data analysis primarily driven by Tableau reports, to identify trends
  • Using existing sources of data, bring new perspectives to discrete portfolios of firms

You will be working alongside, supporting and learning from specialists in financial market quantitative analysis. You will be helping to extract and clean raw data from big data sets, in some cases billions of data points, and to develop and apply the programming/coding required to produce effective and rigorous analytical input into the team's work. You will also have the opportunity to help prepare the final papers setting out our analysis for both internal stakeholders and external publication.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages
  • Basic/novice familiarity with programming languages, such as Python or R, and ideally some practical experience in using them


Personal qualities

  • Aptitude for computing and experience in working with data
  • Good maths skills
  • Inquisitive mindset and interest in finding out what's really driving a phenomenon
  • Strong interest in/desire to learn about wholesale financial/capital markets and how we regulate them
  • Strong team-working approach
  • Good written and oral communication skills


Desired qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 A-Levels at grade Cor equivalent qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs A*-C (4-9) including maths and English or equivalent qualifications


Future prospects

Apprentices who successfully complete their professional qualification and apprenticeship programme will be considered for a permanent role within the FCA.
