This role will introduce you to a vast amount of data types, bioinformatics tools and processes and familiarise you with scripting languages, with the intention to develop and take on more responsibilities as your knowledge and skills grow.

Day to day work can involve:
  • To understand the data and processes involved and to use this understanding to make decisions on changing processes
  • To deal with varied work tasks with an adaptable and organised approach
  • To interact with a lot of people with different background and varying expertise
  • To combine studying and working at the same time

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • An interest in science and technology
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to learn to deal with changing priorities

  • Some experience with Linux command line creating, renaming, moving, deleting files and manually editing files in a text editor
  • Some knowledge of genomics (e.g. spare time reading of articles, journals and introductory materials etc.)

  • Ability to work within and contribute to a team
  • Eager to learn new skills

Desired qualifications

  • 112 UCAS points or equivalent
  • A level Grade B (or equivalent) I at least one STEM subject, maths desirable
  • At least 4 GCSEs at Grade B/ Grade 6 which must include maths and English
  • If English is not your first language, you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
