At Genesis Technical Systems we develop multi award-winning managed xDSL aggregation switch solutions currently trialling at some of the largest telecommunications companies in the world.

We currently have a vacancy for an Software Developer Degree Apprentice to work within the Coventry Office.

Main responsibility:
  • As part of a small team, you will be supporting with designing and implementing code
  • Writing and Testing Code, refining and re writing if necessary supporting the development and functional integration effort for the control, management, and data plane components in our bonded xDSL solutions
  • Evaluating software and systems
  • Developing existing programs by analysing and identifying areas for modification
  • Integrating existing software products and getting incompatible platforms to work together
  • Creating technical specifications
  • Maintaining systems by monitoring and correcting software defects
  • Working closely with other staff, such as project managers, graphic artists, UX designers, other developers, systems analysts and sales and marketing professionals
  • Consulting clients and colleagues concerning the maintenance and performance of software systems with a view to writing or modifying current operating systems
  • Investigating new technologies
  • Continually updating technical knowledge and skills by attending in-house and external courses, reading manuals and accessing new applications

To be interviewed you will need:
  • Previous Qualification in IT at level 3/4 - ideally focussed on Software Development
  • Knowledge of programming and coding languages
  • Knowledge of C/C++ OR Java
  • Experience working on relevant complex software engineering projects in a modern implementation language such as C/C++ or Java
  • Have an understanding of modern structured software engineering principles, hardware and software architectures, tools and practices
  • Clear and precise written communication skills both in all aspects of your communications with us

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Practical experience working in telecommunications networks, and/or network management
  • Experience developing real time systems for embedded software applications, particularly for networking or network management applications
  • A solid working understanding of layer 2 and 3 network protocols and network architecture
  • Experience implementing Kernel or device driver software, working in firmware, or developing for highly parallel systems
  • Experience developing applications for, or deploying, xDSL technologies

Personal qualities

  • Strong numerical skills
  • An inquisitive mind, you will enjoy problem solving
  • Attention to detail
  • Determination to execute the project

Desired qualifications

  • You will educated to GCSE level including English and maths at grade C or above (or equivalents)
  • A computing qualification at Level 3/4 focussing on Software Development will be a distinct advantage
