Working with the Data and Information team who are responsible for the administrative processes associated with students' time at BMet, from initial enrolment to examinations, final results and certificates. The team is responsible for student data and for the preparation of funding claims through external bodies. The team is split into a number of groups, each of which has responsibility for delivering specific parts of the service to students and staff.

Key accountabilities
  • Designing ETL (Extract Transform and Load) packages against the colleges data warehouse
  • Assisting in the development of databases to deliver management information and/or research analysis
  • Working with analysts to design dashboards, test reports, and create visually appealing intelligence
  • Writing SQL/reports using the most advanced theoretical, practical and procedural knowledge of the query language and in accordance with the colleges procedures, data management and ICT strategies
  • Developing, testing, reviewing and delivering consistent technical/BI reports to interpret data from college information systems, databases and data warehouse using a range of analytical tools to provide information for services, dashboards and further analysis for service, partnerships and the college
  • To have an awareness of the college strategy and the requirements expected of the Data and Information team
  • To contribute to the production and maintenance of effective and clear application documentation including, but not limited to, technical and functional specifications and user guides
  • To commit to, promote and operate in accordance with BMet's values and goals including but not limited to: safeguarding; health and safety; equality, diversity and inclusion
  • To commit to and participate in activities as required including but not limited to: enrolment and open events; business planning and development

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Experience in or knowledge of designing and/or developing client and web based systems, using a variety of tools, techniques and programming languages
  • Experience with one or more Microsoft products, such as Access, Excel, VB, C/C++/C#
  • Good skills in database design and database querying using SQL
  • An understanding of systems development and data protection

Desired qualifications

GCSE or equivalent minimum A-C/9-4 in maths and English and a Computer Science (or related) subject.

Future prospects

On completion of this apprenticeship a permanent position might be available for the right candidate.

Things to consider

As part of this apprenticeship, you will be required to travel to both the employer location and also attend college. Depending on the chosen provider this could be in block sessions in London, Manchester or Birmingham.
