You will be working alongside experienced IT Programme and Project Managers to define, document and carry out a wide variety of projects or sub-projects for the MECD programme. As part of the apprenticeship, you will gain experience of working across all phases of the project lifecycle.

Main responsibilities:
  • Defines, documents and safely executes small-scale projects, or sub-projects, actively participating in all phases of the project. Identifies, assesses and manages risks to the success of the project
  • Prepares and maintains realistic project schedules and quality plans and tracks all activities against them, providing regular and accurate reports to senior management, and client/user management as appropriate
  • Reports progress on business readiness targets, business engagement activity, training design and deployment activities, key operational metrics and return to productivity measures
  • Monitors costs, timescales and resources used, and takes action where these deviate from agreed tolerances
  • Assists the user community in provision of transition support and change planning, and liaises with the project team
  • Ensures that own projects are formally closed and, where appropriate, subsequently reviewed, and that lessons learned are captured and actioned. Produces appropriate documentation to support these processes


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • A passion for Project Management, preferably within an IT environmentand a desire to work in a customer-facing role
  • The ability to establish good working relationships by being an effective and sensitive communicator with stakeholders from a broad range of backgrounds
  • An understanding of the importance of maintaining a customer focus by regularly checking in with the customer when taking actions or making decisions
  • A high attention to detail
  • The ability to represent IT Services in a professional and courteous manner
  • The ability to work under pressure and prioritise accordingly
  • Excellent written skills, e.g. reports, emails, etc.


Personal qualities

Someone with an enthusiastic and professional attitude and a commitment to learning new skills.

Desired qualifications

  • Any A-Level or a Level 3 in a similar subject
  • Or holds an existing project management qualification


Future prospects

92% of QA Apprentices secure permanent employment after finishing their apprenticeship.Additionally there may be opportunities to undertake further apprenticeship training as many of our programs offer on-going development tracks.
