Start Date
Day to day duties would evolve and would include, but are not limited to:
  • Attending in-house training and engineering forums
  • Undertaking design calculations
  • Assisting an electrical engineer to develop the design of lighting, power distribution, fire detection and alarms, access control and power generation, including sustainable sources of generation
  • Assisting an electrical engineer to prepare specifications with drawings to enable the work to be tendered by contractors
  • Assisting an electrical engineer to monitor projects while they are on site
  • Visiting site to assist an electrical engineer to survey existing electrical services to prepare condition reports and asset registers
  • Visiting site to survey existing electrical services
  • Anything that will help you to learn about the job and will help you to enjoy work

Personal qualities

We are seeking someone who is keen to learn, who wants to be part of a team, who can communicate well, who wants to contribute directly to improvements to the environment through energy efficient, sustainable designs and who would gain satisfaction from seeing their design installed to provide a building that works well for the occupiers.

Desired qualifications

Apprenticeship candidates will need have at least three A levels at Grades A*-C including Mathematics and Physical Science (either Physics or Chemistry) or will have completed a level 3 Apprenticeship BTEC National Diploma in a relevant field.

Candidates are also required to start the programme holding a L2 Maths and English qualification (GSCE grade A*- C / new tariff grade 4 or above).

Future prospects

We encourage all of our staff to fulfil their potential, including broadening their knowledge, continuing their academic studies to master's degree level and achieving Incorporated or Chartered Engineer registration, with the possibility of involvement in the management of our business in due course.

Things to consider

Our office is on a public transport route from Reading. However, given that it would be a requirement of the job, as the role evolves, to visit buildings that are not necessarily accessible by public transport it will be a requirement to gain a driving licence and to have their own car to fulfil the duties of the job.

We initially provide 21 days of holiday per year (plus bank holidays), increasing to 30 days with length of service.

Salary is reviewed annually (in addition to course fees and travelling expenses associated with studying for the degree).
