We will support you as a new graduate to achieve a postgraduate engineering qualification at Aston University alongside gaining valuable exposure to develop your skills to shape your role at each stage of your career with us.

Salary:Sandwell Band E, SCP 18-25 (£24,313 - £28,785 per annum) (£12.60 - £14.92 per hour)

Your role will initially be to assist the team however, as you gain experience and complete a post-graduate qualification you will be required to carry out the following duties:
- Day to day and programme management, from inception to completion, of road safety, traffic management and highway maintenance construction schemes and programmes or other highway projects of an engineering nature
- Deputise for the designated Team Leader as required
- Prepare written and verbal replies to highway related enquiries from elected members and, members of the public, including attending face to face meetings
- Prepare Cabinet reports and advise elected members as necessary
- Undertake consultation with members of the public and other stakeholders about proposed highway schemes
- Prepare financial estimates, monitor expenditure and produce spend profiles
- The day-to-day supervision of contractor staff and junior staff/apprentices

- Basic knowledge of civil engineering, contractualmanagement and procurement procedures
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD or similar technical drawing software
- Basic knowledge of the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002 and other related best practice, guidance and codes of practice would be desirable but not essential

- Reliable, dependable and have a common sense approach to problem solving
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to motivate, mentor and instruct junior members of staff
Desired qualifications
- Employer requirements: BEng/BSc Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent subject
- You will need to apply for or already be employed in a role with responsibilities aligned with the degree content. Entry requirements are set by the hiring business and not Aston University so they vary between organisations
Typically employers require:
- A professionally recognised bachelors degree or equivalent in a STEM subject
You will also need to meet the government's eligibility criteria:
- Have been a UK/EU/EAA resident for the past three years or more prior to starting the course
- Have left full time education when the apprenticeship you are applying for is due to start
- Be aged at least 16 years old to meet government funding criteria
Your place will be subject to an interview by both the employer and the University.
