We have another exciting new apprenticeship opportunity for a numerically bright and enthusiastic individual to join Surrey Police's highly respected Performance & Consultation Unit which supports the organisation to achieve its vision of making Surrey the safest it can be.

As an Apprentice Management Information Officer you will be regularly executing database queries in order to monitor and identify performance risks and opportunities that have the potential to impact on the force's strategy and the public's priorities. You will have the opportunity to use Tableau (a leading data visualisation software) to help the unit produce performance dashboards and reports for various stakeholder across the force.

You will be expected to maintain good working relationships within the organisation, (including key stakeholders and internal customers) and with external agencies such as the Home Office and HMIC. You will also be expected to present the findings of your data analysis to colleagues who will use your insight to support their recommendations to senior leaders.

Key responsibilities:
  • Execute database queries for data analysis
  • Assist with data quality checking
  • Manipulate and link different data sets as required
  • Assist with the production of a range of ad-hoc and standard data analysis reports
  • Perform routine statistical analyses and ad-hoc queries, for example freedom of information requests
  • Assist performance analysts to identify and predict trends and patterns in data
  • Assist production of performance dashboards and reports
  • Apply the tools and techniques for data analysis, data visualisation and presentation


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Successful candidates will be numerate with well-developed computer skills and preferably with a basic understanding of SQL
  • The preferred candidates will also have a high level of attention to detail and be familiar with numerical reasoning and explaining statistical concepts
  • They should also have the ability to manage requirements and prioritise tasks across a diverse range of subject areas
  • It is essential that the post holder is highly computer literate


Personal qualities

  • It is essential that the post holder has well-developed communication skills both written and verbal
  • It is essential that the post holder has the ability to manage a challenging workload with a high degree of flexibility and can work accurately under pressure


Desired qualifications

It is expected that the candidatewill have obtained at least 80 UCAS points (200 UCAS points on the old tariff scale) or equivalent qualifications at Level 3, normally in a minimum of two subjects,one of which must be mathematics (or equivalent e.g. BTEC extended diploma that has a maths component) by September 2019.

Future prospects

Successful completion of the 2-year Apprenticeship programme may lead to further studies at degree level or full-time employment.
