For the duration of the apprenticeship you will be working under the guidance of the Technical Director from whom you will receive regular direction and guidance whilst working on specific projects. You will report to the Senior Team Lead, who is a senior software engineer who will be your mentor on a daily basis. Your daily duties will include:
  • You will be expected to learn the significance and importance of the correct processes being used for both creating and testing software; and to then embrace the processes in all your daily work.
  • The close knit nature of the teams means you will receive constant nurturing and support from all of the TouchByte team and you will be encouraged to be proactive in all aspects of team activities.
  • Within the office environment we will be ensuring you attain knowledge of general work practices such as Health & Safety, personal effectiveness and professionalism along with interpersonal and written communication.
  • Over the duration of the apprenticeship you will receive training in Software Testing and Software Design. Both of these areas are fundamental to understanding how to progress onto writing and creating high quality software as required by our blue chip clients.
  • You will then commence learning of coding in C++, HTML and Databases and how to create, develop and implement complete software solutions.
  • We also expect that during the 2 years we will encourage you to have a couple of away days at some other partner companies within the digital sector in Cornwall to see how they operate.
  • It is hoped we will also be able to provide some learning in other areas of electronics, cameras and other digital technologies, as these subjects will further enhance the learning experience and add value to your CV and life skills.

Within this apprenticeship, you can expect to receive work based training into many of the aspects of software development and software testing activities. During the apprenticeship, you will be assigned to a lead developer where you will work alongside the Testing and Development team. After initial training you will begin to carry out some of the roles of the Software Tester and we will expect you to perform these duties in as diligent and responsible a manner as we would any other employee. As your training progresses you will start learning more about software development and in particular, the process of software development; this will involve an increasing amount of time spent with developers as well as testers.
