Start Date
  • Measure and draw up measured surveys
  • Prepare drawings from surveys by others
  • Prepare and develop design proposals with the directors
  • Prepare presentation drawings sketches and models
  • Liaise with clients to agree and modify design proposals
  • Prepare supporting documents for and prepare and submit planning and related applications
  • Prepare notices, arrange and take schedules required by the Party Wall etc. Act
  • Liaise with structural engineers and other specialists to develop schemes for construction
  • Develop construction information for Building Regulations applications
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers to agree and complete information on fittings and finishes
  • Design draw and specify external works
  • Research and write building specifications and schedules of works
  • Obtain tenders for building works, analyse these and report to clients
  • Visit sites to inspect works report progress and issue instructions
  • Manage and minute site meetings and inspections
  • Value works in progress and issue payment certificates
  • Assist with the management of the office

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • RIBA Part 1. Some office experience (not necessarily architects)
  • Competent user of AutoCAD and MS Office with good hand drawing skills
  • Some 3D drafting (Archicad, Sketchup), and/or Photoshop would be welcome

Personal qualities

The architect is often the only one trying to get a project to happen.You need persistence, an organised approach,attention todetails and enthusiasm for design, sometimes all at once. We're a small team and your role will include contact with the rest of the office, with clients and contractors, all of whom can be annoying and need polite, but firm treatment.

Desired qualifications

  • Recognised first degree in architecture, 2.2 or above,or
  • Level 6 Architectural Assistant apprenticeship certificate,or
  • Recognised first degree in architecture which is notified to the European Commissionplus
  • Applicants must hold 5 GCSEs A-C including minimum B in Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above)

Future prospects

Potential to remain full-time within the practice after registration.

Things to consider

Access to the office is by stairs only. Mostly office based but occasional building sites - whatever the weather.
