This is an exciting period of activity within the Planning, Transportation & Highways service who are delivering a major programme of road and rail projects. Opportunities for our teams to gain first-hand experience of delivering large scale transformational projects have never been better and we would like to invite you to share in this fantastic opportunity whilst training for a career in civil engineering. We are looking to recruit a number of apprentices who are enthusiastic, flexible and willing learners who can respond to the challenge of working with a team committed to delivering the District's transport network for the future.

Trainees will be registered with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) as a student member and employed under a formal training agreement with Bradford Council.

The scheme offers the opportunity to gain work experience in a number of different service areas, whilst studying between 2-4 years (length is dependent on previous achievements) towards achieving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering (Level 6) from Leeds Beckett University.

All tuition fees will be paid throughout the training period by Bradford Metropolitan District Council.The starting salary will be £16,933with salary progression being awarded through successful achievement of academic qualifications and work experience appraisals.

Desired qualifications

Entry qualification requirements are 96 UCAS points or equivalent. Apprenticeship candidates will typically have at least three A levels at grades A*- C to include Maths, English and a physical science or their equivalent or will have completed a Level 3 apprenticeship as a Civil Engineering Technician or hold two distinctions for a BTEC National Diploma in Civil Engineering or related studies. Relevant work experience or other relevant qualifications may be considered on a case by case basis.

Future prospects

This is a temporary contract that may lead to a permanent position working with a team committed to delivering the District's transport network for the future.

Things to consider

The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016, requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.
