Heinz is one of the UK's leading food manufacturers and we are looking for the next generation of talented Engineers. Traditionally we look towards candidates who want to start a career in Engineering, however we will also accept applications from applicants who are working towards or have achieved Engineering qualifications.

The purpose of the Technical Apprenticeship scheme is to maintain and enhance the current skills at Kitt Green. Apprentices will be integrated into our Engineering teams to develop their skills and become highly skilled Engineer.

The duration of a full apprenticeship can take 5 years

With the advanced level 3 programme taking between 36 to 48 months depending on skills, ability and commitment.

For higher achievers and a 36-month completion additional training should continue (see future prospects below)

Traditionally we look towards candidates who want to start a career through the apprenticeship programmes in Engineering starting at Level 3; however, we will accept applications from candidates who are working towards or have achieved Engineering qualifications.

Working alongside experienced and qualified staff you will learn aspects of Mechanical with an in-depth knowledge of Electrical Maintenance skills within the Food & Drink Industry.

Working under supervision you will work towards being responsible for the following tasks:
  • Ensure that all Health and Safety standards are maintained and that you show due diligence at all times
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures e.g. health and safety, food hygiene standards, training & development, quality, disciplinary & grievance and sickness & absence etc.
  • Understand and apply Food & Drink principles to your role
  • Plan and prepare for maintenance of engineered systems in the food and drink industry
  • Perform first line routine mechanical maintenance, including removing and replacing components, cleaning, lubrication, inspection and fault finding
  • Apply 'best practice' techniques, including condition monitoring and proactive maintenance
  • Maintain fluid power systems
  • Perform first line electrical maintenance, including testing, fault finding, repairing and replacing components
  • Apply mathematical techniques to solve engineering problems
  • Understand the principles of electrical machines, testing electrical equipment and circuits
  • Understand the operation of process controllers within an engineered system
  • Commission and perform maintenance of instrumentation/process control systems
  • Perform maintenance of programmable control systems
  • Understand the requirements of electrical installation
  • To carry out any other reasonable requests to meet the needs of the business

Desired qualifications

Minimum of 5 GCSE Grades 9-5 / A-C including English Language and Double Science subjects or equivalent. GCSE mathematics must be a minimum 6 / B grade.

Please note:NWTC are in the process of moving location to a new High Tech Training facility, the new training centre is still in Liverpool and well connected with public transport, the move is going to be achieved in stages so you may be required to attend either our current address, our new address and Kraft Heinz as you go through the selection.
