Business Administration Apprentice within the Community and Business Safety Department.

Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Fire Authority are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Business Administration Apprentice to work in their Fire Safety departments, based at Service Headquarters in Aylesbury, Marlow Fire Station and Broughton Fire Station. In addition to working at these locations, the candidate will be required to attend Milton Keynes College for approximately one day per month as part of their Business Administrators Standard.

A Business Fire Safety Advisor works with businesses to help them keep their premises safe from fire by offering advice and education to reduce risk.

The role contributes to the aims of saving life, preventing injury, enhancing business continuity and protecting premises. The role involves a diverse mix of essential work including visits to a wide spectrum of businesses and joint visits with other agencies in order to actively support and promote business safety. The role may also involve proactive promotional work at events and reactive work after incidents to raise awareness of Fire Safety in the business community. As ambassadors of Fire and Rescue Services, Business Fire Safety Advisors represent their organisation and will demonstrate excellent customer service skills to businesses in their community.

The successful candidate(s) will be working as part of a team delivering fire safety advice to members of the public for both commercial premises and private dwellings. Proactively engaging with the business sector, local housing, National Health Service (NHS), Schools etc.

Supporting Senior Fire Safety Inspecting Officers, with the enforcement of the Regulatory Reform (Fires Safety) Order 2005 (the Order). Carrying out Audits, collecting, collating and analysing evidence, to support Enforcement of the Order.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to use IT systems in a wide range of applications, the ability to work to time sensitive deadlines with high order attention to detail, be able to work well on their own as well as part of a team, possess good communication and inter personal skills and have high levels of integrity, honesty, reliability and confidentiality.

This post will encompass a wide range of responsibilities.

What are the entry requirements?
To be eligible to apply for this role, you will need to have GCSE's in Maths and English A* - C/4-9 (or equivalent). You will also possess the following attributes:

* A 'Can Do' attitude

* A keen interest in Fire and Rescue Services

* A willingness to learn

* The ability to communicate effectively with a range of people

* The ability to work in a team environment

Initially based at Service Headquarters in Aylesbury, the candidate will be required to work across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes and thus a UK driving license will be essential.

Support Staff are currently required to work a 37 hour week, Monday - Friday.

What certification will you achieve?

* Level 3 Business Administrator Standard

* Level 3 Certificate in Fire Safety

How will I be assessed during the apprenticeship scheme?

You will be assessed in a variety of ways which could include:

* Formal external courses and examinations

* On the job observations

* Evidence of your duties / tasks performed

* Reports from mentors and managers

* Production of an e-portfolio of evidence

* End point assessment

What happens after the apprenticeship?

The Apprenticeship will last 24 months, following which we will work closely with the individual to identify the next steps, this could include:

* Further or higher education

* Career progression within Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Fire Authority

* Further opportunities, involving support to response activities

The role of a Business Administration Apprentice within the Community and Business Safety Department starts at: GBP15,839.00, rising to GBP23,957.00 on completion of their apprenticeship.

Career progression
A natural career progression for the successful candidate is to become an Inspecting Officer in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Fire Authority, which will attract a Level 4 Fire Safety qualification and a salary pay band H (GBP28,578.00).
