Mechanical Apprentice

Our Engineering Apprenticeship offers you a diverse and exciting experience within the Construction Industry. Over 4 years you will build the knowledge and skills required to develop a rewarding career in either an operational, commercial or office capacity.

Qualifications Required

Our minimum entry requirements are:
• 5 GCSEs Grade A*- C (9 - 4) including Mathematics, English Language and Science
We recruit from a range of academic disciplines and have particular interest in technically orientated and business related subjects.

Full Description

Aggregate Industries Engineering Apprenticeship offers numerous structured development paths in one of the following areas: Asphalt, Aggregates, Cement, Concrete, Contracting and Technical. During the Apprenticeship you will complete a Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance (QCF) at Stephenson's College, but the learning doesn't stop there. Throughout the apprenticeship you are given the opportunity to expand your skill set by attending various courses organised by the Company's central Learning and Development Team.
Whilst on site you will be given a tailored training plan to work through and are supported by both your allocated Mentor and your Manager. On a day to day basis you will be given greater exposure to your division and the roles of your team members. Our overarching Company value is Health and Safety and to assist you in understanding the underlying concepts of this value, we require our apprentices to complete an NVQ Level 4 in Health, Safety and Environment.

Job duties:

In time you will learn how to:

• Ensuring Planned Preventative Maintenance is completed in line with internal Maintenance System
• Ensuring all information is captured on internal Maintenance System, including booking spares, time, and machine and fault information
• Servicing, repairing and fault diagnosis of all equipment
• Identifying spares and replacement machine parts to ensure limited downtime
• Electrical / electronic / mechanical and installation - dependant on sites requirements
• Machining skills
• Electrical and electronics repair
• Welding / fabrication.
• Machinery and process development
• Continuous improvement / loss elimination techniques and approaches
• Management skills to assist in planning, workload management
• Implementation of agreed improvements
• Ensuring a good level of housekeeping of all automated areas is maintained
• Adhering to all health and safety requirements
• Successfully completing the apprenticeship programme

After completion of the 4 year Plant Maintenance and Operations Apprenticeship, there are a number of options you may choose to pursue including:
??? A career in an Operational Team Leader role.
??? Or, given the size and scope of our Company, an exciting career in another division/department.

Training to be Provided

Level 3 Maintenance Operations Engineering Technician Standard

Training will include a Level 3 qualification in Engineering Maintenance, as well as preparation for End Point Assessment.

Other Information

The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is GBP3.90 per hour. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies
