Administration and Science Support Apprentice
Chatham Grammar School for Girls (CGSG) is a selective 11 – 19 girls school (with a mixed sixth form) whose Lead Sponsor is the University of Kent. CGSG is part of the newly established University of Kent Academies Trust (UKAT).
As a UKAT academy, students at CGSG benefit from access to a range of University resources, which support their academic and social development. These include: graduate and post graduate Student Ambassadors who mentor and coach students supporting them with their academic studies, visits to the University campus, participation in a range of University led curriculum programmes, access to the University’s international campuses, and extra curricular experiences offered through a wide range of enrichment opportunities.
Organise regular maintenance with our external contractors, keeping records and documenting costs.
Undertake Stock control of equipment and chemicals.
Maintain a database of department resources and hold the asset register.
Maintain tidy, organised storage and labelling of apparatus and equipment. Undertake requisitioning and receipt of supplies and equipment.
Maintain and store apparatus and equipment in a clean and safe condition.
Take a proactive approach in providing advice and guidance to teachers, for example making suggestions on improvements to the design of proposed practicals.
Assist the teaching staff in the setting up of practicals and demonstrations (including computer and audio-visual equipment) by ensuring that the
Teachers’ needs are fully understood and delivered.
Where appropriate and under direction, produce and promote material for social media that highlights the work of the Science department.
Support the operation of a safe working environment in the Science department. Repair, as far as reasonably possible, any faulty or damaged equipment.
£199.88 per week, pro rata. (based on £6.15 per hour, for 32.5hours per week) Term time only
Working 8:30am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday. Term time only.
Good ICT Skills
A keen interest in working within a school/learning environment
Able to work on own initiative or as part of a team Interest in Science
A minimum of 5 GCSE A*-C (5-9) including English and Maths.
Appropriate qualification in science
On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Standard – consisting of the Intermediate NVQ Level, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills if appropriate.
Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.

Therefore, you must have the means to get to your place of work on a daily basis whilst waiting for your first wages to be paid.
