As an Apprentice Developer for Housing Partners you will be trained up across multiple business areas focusing on the technical aspects. This will include a period in Help Desk, Quality Assurance and then moving on to the development team. Within the development team you will undertake training to enhance your knowledge and build upon your journey so far.

You will be placed in a small product-focused team comprising 2 or 3 developers, a QA developer and Product Owner, working to support the development of our products to take them to newer heights. Initially focusing on bug fixes across our core product set, you will work across multiple technologies and work on real products very soon after starting work with us.

You'll join our inhouse development team, and work in a small, cross-functional and autonomous project team of around 3 devs, 1 QA and 1 product owner. You will participate in our scrum sprint events, asking questions and contributing your ideas about how we build new features. You'll work with the team to deliver small, modular systems - paying attention to security, scalability, testability, accessibility and usability.

We're looking for an Apprentice Developer with some experience in some of our tech stack of Azure, MS SQL, C#, Web API, HTML5, CSS, TypeScript/JavaScript and Angular - but we'll happily train up the right person with equivalent experience in other technologies as long as you have a keenness to learn.

Key Duties:
  • Upskilling in our core products and technologies
  • Communicating progress to your team
  • Writing secure, clean code to maintain our products and services and create new features
  • Working as part of a team to devise and deliver software as required by our product team
  • Taking an active part in the day to day development activities, e.g. daily scrums, retrospectives, sprint reviews
  • Ensure that any required tasks for our accreditations are carried out and reported as determined by Housing Partners
  • Ensure HP personnel policies and procedures are adhered too
  • Ensure that you report any risk items to an appropriate line manager so that they can be dealt with and recorded in accordance with Housing Partners procedures
  • Ensure that HP Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures are complied with and fully maintained
  • Compliance with all other HP standards, policies, procedures and agreements.

  • Familiar with one development language such as C#
  • Familiar with web development technologies (HTML5, TypeScript/JavaScript and CSS3)

  • Awareness of C#, .NET Core, MVC, Azure
  • Awareness of TFVC source control/Azure DevOps

  • Awareness of Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL, Stored Procedures, indexes, etc.)

Desired qualifications

  • You will be educated to GCSE level and have between A*-C or 9-4 grades including English and maths (or equivalent)
  • A Levels in computer science, maths and/or the sciences
  • An IT qualification would be desirable
