Our Programme has been designed to challenge you as well as give you vital experience, with a chance to complete a number of placements across the organisation offering opportunities to gain exposure to real business challenges, as well as gaining a degree in Business Managementby completing a fully funded Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship with Manchester Metropolitan University, all whilst receiving coaching from experienced managers, a dedicated mentor and buddy.

The Programme lasts four years and after successful completion you are expected to be appointed to a role leading and developing a team to tackle some of the key transport issues the region faces.

Key Role Outputs

Effective development and delivery of operational strategies and plans:
  • Develop and maintain understanding of relevant functional strategies and priorities
  • Use data and analytics to support the development of processes, policies and strategies and innovative approaches to improve performance and delivery of operational plans
  • Establish plans, targets and KPIs to support the delivery of operational priorities
  • Support the delivery and implementation of a range of activities, resolving day-to-day issues, escalating them where necessary
  • Effectively monitor and evaluate performance and service delivery, identify opportunities for improvement

Effective application of project management processes
  • Assist in the initiation, planning, design, management and delivery of projects, taking the lead on specific minor projects and/or specific aspects of larger projects to ensure satisfactory progress and consistent delivery of projects aligned to the agreed funding, outputs and timescales for those projects
  • Ensure outcomes of projects are delivered and benefits realised and ensure appropriate transition of outcomes.
  • Evaluate projects to ensure lessons learned and incorporated into future activities

Effective financial management
  • Support the compilation, analysis, interpretation and reporting of Management Accounting information to support financial decision making
  • Support the preparation of detailed zero-based budgets and forecasts
  • Support in monitoring of financial performance, including reporting on budget spend and variances against budget

Effective customer service and engagement
  • Support the use of customer insight and analysis of data to identify opportunities to improve services to customers and meet customer needs
  • Make recommendations for improving services to customers and quality of the customer service and participate in the development and implementation of creative solutions for improvements

Effective stakeholder relationships
  • Establish networks and build relationships and rapport with stakeholders across all functions and levels of TfGM and with external partners
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders both within and external to TfGM to be able to contribute effectively across all placements
  • Participate in cross functional initiatives and activities

Effective people management
  • Establish priorities, objectives and accountabilities for teams
  • Manage, coach, develop and motivate teams to improve performance and achieve objectives

Effective leadership
  • Develop understanding and be able to articulate TfGM's strategic objectives and commitments
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support the creation of a high performance organisation
  • Understand the requirements for change, lead, communicate and embed these with teams
  • Demonstrate commitment to diversity, ensuring equal and open access to employment and training opportunities across the organisation

Commitment to effective personal development
  • Undertake further study to successfully complete the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship
  • Fully engage in formal and informal development activities and actively participate in a range of placements across TfGM and with external partners
  • Reflect on own performance, identifying and acting on learning and development needs

Desired qualifications

  • You will have (or be expected to achieve) a minimum of 2 A levels equating to 104 UCAS tariff points or equivalent qualifications
  • You will also require Maths and English Language GCSE grade A*-C/9-5 (or equivalent)
