The main responsibilities within the RIO - Offices (Rating) department are as follows:
  • Developing relationships with existing clients
  • Assisting fee earners with contract management
  • Developing and maintaining a strong network of internal and external contacts
  • Helping to progress checks and challenges to a conclusion

The day to day duties upon commencing the rotation of seats will vary depending on which seat the Apprentice is located, which may be a valuation seat, lease consultancy, agency or otherwise. Duties between seats may include, but are not limited to:
  • Carrying out measured surveys
  • Putting together valuations
  • Searching comparable evidence
  • Preparing client update schedules
  • Conducting site inspections
  • Assisting in data preparation
  • Prepare client advice for review by colleagues
  • Work closely with all levels of colleagues from other Apprentices, Surveyors, through to Partners.

The frequency of how much exposure you get across these competencies is dependent on the seats you get to sit in.

Off-the-job training will be provided by the University College of Estate Management (UCEM). You will achieve a Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) accredited BSc (Hons) Real Estate Management. Rather than attending formal lectures or classes, you'll study using UCEM's state-of-the-art online learning environment and digital library, supported with guidance from highly experienced tutors.

Upon completion of the BSc (Hons) Real Estate Management and the structured workplace learning you will undertake the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence leading to registration with the RICS as a Chartered Surveyor (Commercial Property Practice).

Desired qualifications

For standard entry on the Chartered Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship with UCEM, the following applies:
  • 96 UCAS tariff points (2017 Tariff) or an equivalent level of attainment through recognised qualifications not included in the UCAS Tariff

Or
  • To have completed an Advanced Apprenticeship in Surveying or an Advanced Apprenticeship in Construction Technical through which a Construction and Built Environment Diploma with a minimum DD profile was obtained or through which a Construction and Built Environment Extended Diploma with a minimum MMM profile was obtained

Or
  • An equivalent qualification

Or
  • A current RICS Associate qualification

And
  • GCSE grade C/4 or above in English and maths or accepted current or prior equivalent maths and English qualifications

Or
  • Evidence via initial and diagnostic assessment that maths and English skills at Level 2 exist
