The role:

Participate in the Apprentice Scheme and train to become an Apprentice Information Security Analyst. You will report into the Head of Security Risk & Assurance. As such, risk and audit management will be a core aspect of the job, as will helping the team provide quality responses to client security queries, consequentially you will be instrumental in influencing the perception our clients have of us.

The role is however, designed to develop the individual into a broad Infosec professional by providing exposure to and gaining experience from all other areas of the Global Information Security operation - including Security Engineering; Security Operations and Application Security. You will be an individual who has/is studying Information Security or IT and has a strong desire for a career in information security.

What you will be doing:
  • Assist in socialising policy, Data Protection Impact Assessments and risk assessment across relevant areas of the organisation
  • Promote a business-partner approach to engagement - ensuring the function collaborates and works with (rather than police) business teams
  • Participate and assist in the internal Security Audit & Risk Assessment Programme and its associated processes
  • Assist in the production, review and response to security metrics
  • Participate and assist in Client-led security audits, assist with scheduling, meeting logistics and follow-up of findings
  • Assist in the development of Client Information Packs
  • Actively engage with peers in the global community to ensure a consistent approach and best practice across all Iress locations

What you will need:
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, unsupervised and become self-sufficient
  • Logical analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills and high attention to detail
  • Understands business and external environment, is cost conscious and understands the longer-term perspective and implications of decisions
  • Expresses ideas confidently and clearly, builds positive and constructive relationships with others, gets to know colleagues within their own team and supports them to ensure team goals are achieved
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines
  • General computer literacy is essential as is the ability to understand system and information flows
  • Ability to remain calm and collected in pressure situations to allow constructive guidance to the team and also communicate effectively to stakeholders
  • Ability to engage with internal stakeholders to understand and agree priorities/deliverables. With the ability to manage multiple demands on your time by working on BAU and project activities and ensure tracking of effort and progress across the board

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, excellent numeracy and literacy skills
  • Theoretical understanding of information security concepts, security risk, privacy, policy or security governance
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage your own time


Personal qualities

  • Demonstrates commitment and shows an enthusiasm for learning
  • A good team player with the ability to work under pressure


Desired qualifications

Five GSCES A*-C/9-4 or equivalents, including maths and English plus a technology subject.
2 A levels in STEM subjects or an IT apprenticeship at level 3 or equivalent.
