Duties & Responsibilities are:
  • Attend Pre-Start meeting (if required)
  • Create Hit List and drawing register (if required)
  • Order materials and check Estimator take-offs
  • Complete procurement forms
  • Undertake cost planning andcommercial managementthroughout the entire life cycle of the project from inception to post-completion
  • Assess riskand calculate how this can be avoided
  • Procurement of materials and contractors
  • Provide procurement advice and assistance during the tendering procedure
  • Undertake commercial management and contract administration
  • Provide advice and assistance indispute resolution
  • Undertake interim valuations and payment assessment
  • Manage the cost management process
  • Assess the additional costs of design variations agreeing any additional charges with the client/architect/designer
  • Produce a final account for the project


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

Essential
  • Understand the commercial aspects of the quantity surveying process
  • Knowledge and experience of the building and joinery trade is essential
  • The ability of read and understand clients drawings and from that produce an approved list of suppliers and sub-contractors based on best value for money

Desirable
  • Working knowledge of Causeway software package
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages such as Excel and Word and Microsoft 365

  • Experience within a busy commercial construction firm is essential

Future prospects

The successful candidate will be working towards a full time quantity surveying role.

Things to consider

  • A clean current driving license is required
  • The role is office based with typical 9 to 5 hours, although the role will require travel including client supplier/sub-contractor meetings and visits to sites. Overnight stays may be required given the national breadth of the company's work
