Future prospects

Successful completion of this apprenticeship will equip you to apply for a number of roles within both the Students’ Union and Queen Mary University, and many similar employers within the higher education sector.

Additionally, the apprenticeship should enable you to secure employment in a variety of roles within the voluntary and not for profit sector. Typically, these might include management roles in areas such as volunteering, fundraising, programme management, policy and public affairs or planning and governance.

If you chose to take up the option of also studying for the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) Qualifying Programme, this would enable you to apply for roles within a secretariat, governance, or professional services team and to continue to work towards chartered membership of the ICSA and becoming a Chartered Secretary and Chartered Governance Professional.

Things to consider

This is an office-based role and it will require extensive use of computers.

Some of the meetings with which you will assist take place outside of normal working hours (typically weekday evenings). Time off in lieu will be given when this occurs.

Benefits include 30 days annual leave, plus university closure days, access to a pension scheme, free gym membership and an interest-free season ticket loan.

Employees of the Students’ Union also benefit from staff discount on food and drink purchased in the Union’s Coffee Shop.

Queen Mary Students' Union is proud to be an Equal Opportunities employer and we are committed to equality of opportunity for all applicants regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability status, class or any other dimension of diversity. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates as this group is currently under-represented within the Students’ Union
