Vacancy Description

The programme requires the post holder to diligently undertake the apprenticeship training programme as set out in the WaterAid apprenticeship agreement and the agreement with the Finance Training Provider. This will enable the apprentice to understand and assist in the operation of an effective finance function by carrying out tasks in an accurate and timely manner, in line with policies and procedures.

In line with the learning and training programme, additional responsibilities include:
  • Providing a key resource to the finance team to support WaterAid's country programmes and UK departments to deliver effective financial plans
  • Perform activities, as detailed in the scope and dimensions below, to the highest standard of accuracy and within agreed timescales to ensure the efficient and effective processing of financial information
  • Work with the management accountants to produce monthly income and expenditure analysis, forecasts and narrative reporting
  • Support the management accountants to provide additional financial analysis, reports, and advice to management e.g. trend analysis of past performance, burn rate against restricted funds, value for money and cost recovery
  • Develop a good working knowledge of all financial systems and support the implementation of current and new tools and processes to support effective funds management i.e. costing toolkit, the embedding of cost recovery methodology
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of processes and procedures, as tasks are undertaken and suggesting effective solutions to issues as they arise
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships across the finance team and other stakeholders to ensure an integrated approach, mutual learning and effective use of resources
  • Reviewing income and expenditure recorded across the organisation for completeness and accuracy
  • Reviewing financial reports for donors and working with Country programs to ensure their donor reporting is accurate
  • Reviewing budgets to the financial planning system during the annual planning process
  • Reviewing quarterly forecasts to the financial planning system
  • Grant balance monitoring (income, budget, and expenditure), reviews and reconciliation where relevant
  • Participate in face-to-face or virtual financial management meetings
  • Any other activities which are commensurate with the grade as required

Desired qualifications

  • Degree in relevant subject (Maths, Accounting, Economics, Business or Commerce) OR AAT Level 3 qualified


Future prospects

There is no automatic transfer to a permanent role however we would encourage apprenticesto apply for internal vacancies at the end of their contract.
