The role of PR Apprentice works to support the wider team by providing a mix of PR executive work and general PR administration duties, reporting to account management. This includes, but is not limited to, social media planning and content, PR copywriting, media research + liaison, trade show support, preparation for client meetings, maintenance of work in progress files, results measurement and new account set-ups. With a focus on time and project management, this role offers the employee the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of working in PR including processes, budget management, reporting and ROI.

  • Produce copy for press releases and other PR materials that is of a good standard, in line with client messaging and media requirements as briefed by account manager/ director
  • Under guidance, produce copy for range of other marketing materials, including social media, websites, email, shaping the content in line with the objectives, audience and required style

Client handling andreporting:
  • Collate and deliver client reports
  • Tracking and reporting coverage/results
  • Preparation for client meetings
  • Develop understanding of clientsproduct/service offering, and build knowledge of clientsindustries and markets

Media management:
  • Ensure media database and client distribution lists are maintained and updated
  • Collate media packs for agency in all target sectors and organise/ file under direction
  • Submission of PR materials to media and distribution of PRs
  • Pitch and sell-in stories
  • Monitor the media, including newspapers, magazines, journals, periodicals, broadcasts and new media
  • Fostering media relationships

Research and admin:
  • Contribute to the new business development process through research
  • Contribute to social media + PR planning through research
  • Establish familiarity with and follow all internal quality processes at all times to ensure a consistency of service to clients
  • Answer telephone and handle visitors professionally
  • Other administration duties such as booking travel, as required
  • Develop commercial awareness - i.e. understanding the role of marketing + PR in business, and the agency's financial model and processes

Workload management:

The PR apprentice will also be required to demonstrate workload management by undertaking the following activities:
  • Time management - Planning, organising and prioritising your workload to ensure deadlines and objectives for both work activities and apprenticeship training are met
  • Diary management - Ensuring email/online diaries are kept up to date

Meetings - Arranging internal and external meetings, ensuring rooms are suitable and attendees needs are catered for
  • Career development - Taking responsibility for personal learning and professional development

Working with people:

The PR apprentice will also be required to demonstrate the following in their ability to work with people:
  • Professional relationships - Developing professional relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, effective listening and verbal/written communication
  • Communicating with supervisors/mentors - Ensuring they are aware of work in progress and are briefed when any problems arise
  • Team building - Working with teams to achieve goals and promote a motivated work environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Articulate with a pleasant, assured and confident manner in written communication, on telephone and in person
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office packages and experienced in social media (particularly LinkedIn and twitter)
  • IT literacy - in particular, Word, Excel and Powerpoint, LinkedIn, Google Analytics
  • Able to present research or information in a clear, concise way

  • High standard of accuracy and attention to detail in all work

Desired qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 A Levels or equivalent is desirable
  • GCSE: 9 to 4 (formerly A* to C) in English Language or equivalent
  • GCSE: 9 to 4 (formerly A* to C) in maths or equivalent
  • Degree preferable but not essential

Future prospects

  • Most interns and apprentices become permanent staff and typically progress to Account Executive within the first year.
  • Future employment opportunities may be available on completion.
