Duties include:
  • To undertake a development programme leading to a National Standard/ Framework as part of an apprenticeship
  • To actively participate in their own development plan which will be agreed with the line manager and the training provider
  • Complete the apprenticeships standard within the agreed timescales
  • To provide the correct up to date information to patients, colleagues, other departments within the Trust, external organisations and the general public
  • Under supervision actively participate in performing cardiac clinical investigations to include Electrocardiography, Holter ambulatory monitoring, exercise tolerance testing, echocardiography, cardiac catheterisation including PCI, pacemaker implantation and pacemaker follow up clinical assessments
  • Communicating effectively with customers face to face, in writing, or by telephone
  • Provide information and/or advice where appropriate or refer onto other staff members where necessary
  • Develop a good working knowledge of the service
  • To ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times
  • Ensure accurate record keeping and updating of information and systems as appropriate within the scope of the position [includes paper and electronic records]
  • Ensure that knowledge is current with regard to all relevant policies & procedures and that you remain compliant with them
  • Carry out duties placed on employees by all relevant legislation and Trust policies, procedures and practices
  • Support the implementation of relevant organisational policies and procedures

Desired qualifications

You must have the following qualification to apply:
  • GCSE (or equivalent) mathematics, English Language or literature and a science subject at grade C or Grade 4 or above
  • PLUS: either
  • A Level minimum of BBB to include Biology and at least one other Science subject
  • Access to HE Diploma gaining 60 credits in total with at least 45 credits achieved at level 3, of which 36 credits must be in science based units at level 3: at least 36 of these credits must be achieved at Distinction or above with the remainder at merit.
  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science grade DDM.
  • Successful completion of level 4 Healthcare Science Assistant apprenticeship
  • Please also note, applications would be welcomed from those awaiting A level results this summer, if predicted grades meet above requirements. Any subsequent appointment would be subject to exam results meeting those predicted

Future prospects

On completion of the apprenticeship the apprentice will have the ability to secure employment as a Cardiac Physiologist.
