The Royal College of Physicians of London plays a pivotal role in setting the standards and through a variety of activities, influences the quality of medical practice in hospitals. It conducts examinations, carries out training, education and research activities and advises the Government and the profession on health and medical matters.

As an Apprentice Advisory Appointments Committees Administrator, your main purpose will be to provide support in the appointment of NHS doctors in medicine by sourcing RCP fellows to represent on Advisory Appointments Committees (AACs), which are the interview panels. The role supports the RCP’s aim to lead and support our members in this statutory process for NHS trusts and providing a non-statutory service to NHS foundation trusts in the UK.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for securing fellows to represent the RCP at AACs for 11 regions
  • Ensuring correct documentation is received to process requests.
  • Using a range of bespoke systems to select suitable fellows in accordance with RCP and Department of Health criteria.
  • Compiling and sending lists of nominations of suitable fellows

to NHS trusts.

  • Securing college representatives for foundation trust AACs by

communicating directly with fellows by e-mail and telephone
to secure diary dates and times to sit on AACs.

  • Communicating directly with stakeholders regarding

nominations of college representatives and helping to resolve
any queries.

  • Ensuring medical staffing departments are informed of all

contact details of fellows sitting on AACs.

  • Supporting college representatives by sending them relevant guidance and information packs.
  • Entering data received from trusts/college representative

feedback forms onto departmental system.

  • Updating spreadsheets in MS Excel to track and log progress

for each AAC.

  • Keeping an accurate audit trail of all activity relating to an

AAC record.

  • Maintaining a filing system and checking and chasing when

the outcome of an AAC is unknown within set timescales.

  • Support medicine jobs site.
  • Adhering to all standard operating procedures of the AACs Unit.
  • Ordering stationery for the department.
  • Any other duties as may be reasonably expected and which

are commensurate with the level of the post.

  • Adhere and comply with the provisions of the RCP’s Health

and Safety Policy.

  • Undertake all duties and responsibilities in compliance with

the rules and regulations encompassing equal opportunities

Desired qualifications

  • It is desired that the successful candidate will hold GCSE grades (A*-C) / (9-4) in English and Maths
  • However, if these have not been achieved Key Training will provide support and upskill in these subjects through Functional Skills, which will be a requirement

Future prospects

  • If hard work has been shown throughout the Apprenticeship, there will be the opportunity to progress onto a full-time position within the company after completion of the Apprenticeship
