The Council is delighted to offer this Level 4 Regulatory Services Compliance Officer Apprenticeship, which is a rare entry level opportunity to join their Regulatory Services team.The team works alongside local businesses and residents to regulate legislation and offer guidance in relation to Environmental Health (including Food Safety), Trading Standards and Licencing.This apprenticeship will enable you to develop a career within Regulatory Services and to learn while in paid employment, with the support of a friendly team and a tutor from a specialist training provider.
The role itself is to support the delivery of the regulatory functions and to undertake the learning requirements of the apprenticeship. Work will be carried out with support and/or supervision from an Enforcement Officer, Regulatory Compliance Officer or Regulatory Services Manager, as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities will include:
After the first six months of the apprenticeship, you will be expected to carry out a range of 'out of hours' inspection and enforcement duties including evenings (running into the early hours of the morning) and weekends on a rota basis.This will generally involve working under supervision on a Friday and Saturday evening every five weeks, with overtime available in line with council policy.

A proven ability and willingness to study and develop skills and knowledge to successfully complete the Level 4 Regulatory Compliance Officer (RCO) Apprenticeship.
Desired qualifications
A minimum of five GCSE passes (including English and maths at grade A-C or 9-4) are required.A Level 3 qualification (A Levels, NVQ, Level 3 apprenticeship or equivalent) is desirable.
Future prospects
Potential to grow within the team and to move into a permanent Enforcement Officer role upon completion of the Apprenticeship.
Things to consider
An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check will be required and a driving licence is desirable but not essential.

- Undertaking a range of general Regulatory Services as well as inspection duties
- Carrying out follow up visits and enquiries within relevant premises as required
- Acting out a range of formal actions in relation to offences and breeches of conditions including issuing of enforcement notices, fixed penalty notices, using verbal and written warnings and issuing of legal proceedings under the direction of the Regulatory Services Manager
- Responding to and investigating complaints and enquiries from the general public and businesses
- Providing advice and guidance in relation to Regulatory Services
- Updating records using the relevant IT systems and software
- Gaining and applying a working knowledge of the relevant legislation
