Software Engineer Degree Apprentice
Edwards Vacuum Technique Global Head Office is Launching Degree Apprenticeships this year and are now looking to recruit Level 6 apprentices to join the business in September 2019. The apprentice will need to be enthusiastic hard working and demonstrate a desire for continual learning to secure a sound understanding of the fast-paced Scientific Vacuum & Semiconductor Industry. Today everything is digital, from the way we work to the way we consume information. Everything is connected, highly personalised and most importantly, customer expectations are set much higher.
Vacuum Technique has a central Information Systems organisation (VTIS) enabling digital and process innovation. As well as managing global infrastructure and security, we manage and control a large portfolio of projects to enable the VT vision. We achieve this by supporting, developing and rolling out business applications and systems.
With an ever increasing amount of automation and integration, it is critical that VTIS is fully aligned and ready to support the business area to deliver ambitious growth plans and develop talent so we become the digital thinkers of the future.
Through a series of rotational placements, the apprentice will have the opportunity to work within all key areas of the Central IT Team at our Global Head Office in Burgess Hill. They will have the opportunity to experience Business Information Systems, Programming, web design, project Management.
Training will be a combination of taught and on the job. Through the delivery of workshops, interactive seminars and practical based activity you will develop your specific knowledge, practical skills and the techniques required of a confident, capable Digital and Technology solutions professional.
On completion of this apprenticeship, combined with working within different teams across our Global Head Office, we will expect you to have developed basic skills in the following:
- Able to perform tests under direction from engineers
- Basic problem solving
- Report writing
- Presentation skills
- Understanding of how the Global Head Office, Our Product and Customer Centre work
- Developing real systems and Business Process Improvement for our customers
- Understanding of Cyber Security fundamentals
- Project Management
- IT Service Support

Applicants must meeting at least one of the following entry requirements;
- At least 3 A-levels at C grade or above to include ICT/Computing
- Level 3 BTEC in ICT/Computing
- equivalent qualification in ICT/Computing
- Monday – Thursday 8.30 –5.15 Friday 8.30 – 12.30. Total hours per week: 37.0
